Day 2: SNOWY PASTORURI “THE ROUTE OF CLIMATE CHANGE” FULL DAY

The Cordillera Blanca is considered the highest tropical mountain chain in the world and therefore is the most susceptible mountain chain of the planet to global warming and the greenhouse phenomenon.

It estimates that glaciers in the Cordillera Blanca will become extinct in the next 50 years and the snowed glacier Pastoruri clearly shows the effects of climate change produced by this phenomena. We drive to the south of the Callejon de Huaylas until Pachacoto, where we will head to the East to get to the Cordillera Blanca road; we start our visit in the National Park Huascaran, where we will find Patococha lagoon, the water source called Pumashimi , carbonated water Puma pampa, and also we can find the most beautiful exponent of the Andean flora “Puya Raimondi” known to be the largest inflorescence in the world, cave paintings; where we begin our ascent to Pastoruri. The bus reaches the parking (4,900m) where we start the trek to the glacier (5,000m) 45 minutes (optionally You can rent horses); This glacier is in an accelerated process of regression from the effects ofthe climate change and that for this purpose the edge of a glacier formed a lagoon where you can see floating ice blocks and into the bottom ice caves. The unit of glaciology makes studies about global warming and keeps records for more than 60 years of glacier retreat in Pastoruri and will be much interest to share with our specially trained guides, these experiences about the global warming in the same scene where happened this natural phenomena . Then we will return to Huaraz.
